The CircleSeats Live Auction of artist-inspired “seats”:
  • For the second year, regional artists have creatively transformed seats of all kinds to be auctioned off live (and silently) at CircleFest on Sunday, February 18th, 2007 at The Rose Lehrman Arts Center.

  • Completed CircleSeats are being showcased in a glass enclosure in the outdoor mall area of 333 Market Street across from Net Pay Payroll Services. The display is updated regularly as new CircleSeats are completed.

  • Each chair is signed by the Artist with the following text:
“CircleSeats Year Two at CircleFest 2007”.

  • A photo and information about the chair, (whether intended for interior or exterior use and whether suitable for sitting or simply admiring), a photo of the Artist, the Artist’s bio and contact information are included in the event-day program booklet and on the event website.

  • All artists are local and most have had their wares available in the Central Pennsylvania area for sale.

I received all of my formal training at The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. at the age of six. Since then I have been involved in many different types of art, but my favorite mediums have remained pencil and ink. I love to draw and I've enjoyed creating several large murals. My favorites have been realistic wildlife, particularly birds, in fantasy environments. Recently, I've been working with leather again (etching belts, purses, etc.,) after taking a twenty-six year break, and that's been fun. I had a blast creating a Circle Seat last year, and am having fun with this year's chair, as well! I enjoy what I create and I hope others do as well!

Astraea Light
Astraea Light I am 9 and I am myself. I love to read, play soccer, listen to music, and do art. I especially like drawing clothing designs and animals in their habitats. When I grow up I would like to be a librarian or a pet shelter owner or a bookstore owner. I think doing a circle seat is pretty cool and it’s fun doing something creative with a chair.

I have always been a creative person and have enjoyed many different hobbies. One day I went to a painting class and discovered a new talent that family and friends encouraged me to explore. It is fun being an explorer of this new love. I love to create art that people want. Each piece I create is created with the person in mind. This step-stool/child's chair was made because of a young lady going to the Circle School and her parents dedication to giving their child a education that allows Emma to be Emma.

Chandler H. Scott-Smith
Chandler H. Scott-Smith My name is Chandler. I love reading, thinking about numbers and doing math, playing soccer, creating art, making experiments, being myself, and anything about animals. I have been studying art with my teacher Jodie Raffensperger since I was 1 year old. Every week she introduces me to a new kind of art or artist and I try it. At The Circle School, I sometimes try new ways of art with Caroline. I wanted to do a CircleSeat because it sounded fun. For my CircleSeat, I sewed a tiger pattern into fabric and I designed and created a covering for the bench myself.
